Most people would never have heard of Muslim speed dating. It is a concept that is available in many parts of the world, and is especially popular in Western Muslim communities. You may find that obvious, since many Muslims live in countries that are not of their origin, finding life partners for their children has become increasingly difficult. There will be issues of visas, if one does find a Muslim bride or Muslim groom back home from their native countries. The only other way to find partners is through Muslim dating or Muslim matrimonial websites, which have become so popular with time.
There is also the concept of speed dating for Muslims. A lot of Muslims will object to the use of the word dating. They believe that it is a word coined by the West, and are not too keen on using the term among their Muslim families. As we all know, Muslims are not allowed to date in the romantic way before marriage. They must always seek the approval of their parents too when they get married. Most staunch Muslims who live in Western countries still follow their rules of Islam, without being influenced by the West.
Though the term speed dating is used, these Muslim families would rather refer to it as speed marriages. They feel that young Muslims have increasingly been affected by the Western dating method. What really happens in Muslim speed dating? Most communities who comprise of Muslims will have Muslim organizations for their society, especially in foreign countries. They will cater to the need of these Muslim communities when they are in need. There is one service that they offer. They will arrange for all Muslim families to meet at a certain common place, and bring their children along with them.
These children include the ones who are to be married only. At this meeting of all the families, all the prospective Muslim girls and Muslim boys will get to meet each other. This obviously is done with the presence of their families. As they meet everyone present, they may choose which one of them they think will be the right partner for them.
All this will be done under the watchful eyes of their parents. They cannot talk for too long, and they flirt with each other. They have to be very modest in the entire group’s presence. They may spend a few minutes talking with each person.
The number of Muslim boys and girls always has to be equal, because they will not want to leave someone behind. After this, the parents may discuss and pick the right person for their children. They will of course seek Allah’s blessings before doing so. Muslim speed dating can be done on the internet, as long as everyone is on a conference with each other. Photographs will also be necessary. This practice is done in the West among Muslim societies, because they are few in number compared to the population in their original countries.
